A Story Book For Children In India About Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Once upon a time, in a bustling city in India, there lived a little boy named Raj. Raj loved playing cricket with his friends and eating delicious street food like samosas and jalebis. But one day, Raj started feeling tired all the time and his tummy felt a bit funny.

Concerned, Raj’s parents took him to Dr. Gupta, a kind and wise doctor who knew all about the health of children. Dr. Gupta examined Raj and said, “My dear Raj, you have a condition called Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, or NAFLD.”

Raj looked puzzled and asked, “What does that mean, Dr. Gupta?”

Dr. Gupta smiled and began his story. “Well, Raj, our liver is like a superhero inside our body. It helps us digest food and keeps us healthy. But sometimes, when we eat too much unhealthy food, like sugary drinks and oily snacks, our liver gets a little tired and starts storing extra fat.”

Raj’s eyes widened as he realized he might have been eating too many jalebis and drinking too many sodas. “Oh no, Dr. Gupta! What can I do to help my liver?”

Dr. Gupta reassured him, “Don’t worry, Raj! We can make your liver healthy again. First, we need to eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They will give your liver the vitamins and nutrients it needs to stay strong.”

Raj nodded eagerly, determined to make a change. “I will eat lots of colorful fruits and veggies, Dr. Gupta!”

Dr. Gupta continued, “That’s the spirit, Raj! We should also limit our intake of sugary drinks and fried snacks. Instead, we can drink plenty of water and enjoy homemade snacks like roasted peanuts or baked samosas.”

Raj’s mouth watered at the thought of healthier snacks. “I can do that, Dr. Gupta! What else?”

Dr. Gupta smiled and said, “Exercise, my dear Raj! Just like playing cricket, running, or dancing, helps keep our body fit, it also helps our liver stay healthy. So, let’s make sure we get at least an hour of active play every day.”

Raj’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “I love playing cricket, Dr. Gupta! I’ll play even more now!”

Dr. Gupta patted Raj’s back and said, “That’s the spirit, Raj! Remember, it’s important to take care of our liver because it takes care of us. With healthy food, exercise, and lots of love, your liver will be as good as new!”

Raj hugged Dr. Gupta tightly, feeling grateful for his guidance. From that day on, Raj made healthier choices, enjoying his favorite street food occasionally while filling his plate with colorful fruits and vegetables. He played cricket with his friends every day, feeling energetic and happy.

And so, Raj’s liver became healthy and strong, just like the superhero it was meant to be. From that day on, Raj and his friends spread the word about taking care of their livers, making their city a healthier and happier place to live.

And they all lived happily ever after, with their healthy livers and big smiles. The end
